What happens during my lash appointment?

Due to the pandemic, we now require all clients to wash their hands when entering the studio and to wear a mask before entering the studio.

So it’s your first time getting lash extensions, or you’re coming to Absolute Beauty Bar from another studio. Whatever the reason is, we are happy to have you! And to make sure that you have the best experience ever, it is our pleasure to let you know what happens at your lash appointment.

When arriving to your appointment , you will be asked to read and sign off on the consent and policy forms. If you have any questions, please don’t be shy and feel free to let us know..

You will be greeted at the door and be kindly be asked to wash your hands prior to beginning your appointment. We will then begin a consultation to determine what style and length are perfect for you. This will depend on a few factors. Your lash strength, health and eye shape. It would be extremely beneficial to bring in photos of what you like so your lash tech will understand of desired look more. Your set most likely won’t look exactly like the photos you bring, it’s more of an inspiration than a “copy and paste” deal.

Once we’re done with the consultation, you will be asked to lay down on the lash bed and a quick lash cleanse will be performed. Please do not wear makeup to your appointment, you don’t want your appointment time to be wasted on removing makeup instead of lashing. If you choose to wear eye makeup to your appointment, a $10 deep lash cleanse will be charged.

After a quick lash bath, an under-eye gel patch will be gently applied to your lower lash line. This will keep lower lashes separate from the lashes that will be worked on. Once all the lashes have been secured, the lashing can commence! Your lash tech will use cleaned and sanitized tweezers to isolate each individual eyelash and apply your extensions one at a time. You should not feel any pain or discomfort for the entire process (if you do, please let us know!). Most of our clients even fall asleep. Don’t be embarrassed if you do, we take it as a compliment, we want you to feel pampered and relaxed. After all your lashes have been filled, your lash tech will make sure nothing is stuck together before removing the gel patch. All you have to do now is slowly open your eyes when asked to and admire those beautiful lashes! Your lash tech may ask to take some photos and videos, it is okay to say no! It is completely up to you.

You will then be told how to take care of your lashes. If you have any questions or concerns about your lashes, now is the perfect time to ask.

Your appointment can range from 30mins to 3hours. Depending on if it is a refill appointment or a new set. Please be prepared to lay down for a long period of time, we promise it will be worth it. Your fill appointments won’t be as long as your initial appointment.

Taking care of your lash extensions

Are you tired of having to wake up early to get ready for the day? Tired of chunky mascara and ending up with raccoon eyes mid-day? Who has the energy to carefully remove your makeup at the end of the day when all you want to do is lay down and pass out in bed.

Eyelash extensions might be the perfect solution for you. Wake up ready to take on the world, so convenient! That’s why it is critical to take care of your lash extensions in order to have them last longer.

What exactly are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are thin fibres attached onto your natural lash. These man-made fibres (we don’t use mink as they don’t hold the curl  and have a higher chance of an allergic reaction) add length and fullness around the eyes. The type of fibre can vary depending on the style of lashes you want, where you go, and your lash artist. Each set of extensions is customized and personalized for each client. We’re all about enhancing everyone’s natural beauty.

Lash Aftercare

As convenient as lash extensions make our lives, regular maintenance will ensure your natural lashes stay strong and healthy.

Your lash technician is responsible for letting you know how to take care of your lash extensions. Here are some tips:

Wash your lashes everyday! This is probably the most important but overlooked tip. You’ll want to invest in a lash cleanser and a small fluffy brush to thoroughly clean your lashes. Don’t be afraid to get them wet! Just pat dry/air dry and use a clean mascara spoolie to carefully brush out your extensions. This will remove any buildup like oil, dirt, dust, etc. Remember, the cleaner and healthier your lashes, the longer your extensions will last.

Avoid rubbing/touching your eyes with your fingers and picking at your lashes. Doing this can actually damage your natural lashes making it harder for your lash tech to help you achieve your desired look in your future appointments.

No mascara! It is almost impossible to remove 100% of the mascara from your extensions by yourself, and even if you come in for a deep lash cleanse, there is no guarantee that we can get everything out. All that makeup will eventually build up and risk a bacterial infection around the eyes. So please…no mascara, you don’t need it anyway! You have such a beautiful set of lash extensions already. If you wear other eye makeup, avoid cotton pads/balls/q-tips at all cost! The cotton fibres can and will get caught in your extensions and may rip out your natural lashes if you try to pull them out. Use lint free pads and swabs to carefully remove any eye makeup.

Book your refills every 2-3 weeks. Lash extensions can last upwards of 5 weeks but that doesn’t mean you get a refill every 5 weeks! We recommend a refill every 2-3 weeks because the extensions are attached to your natural lash. Meaning that they will grow out and need to be removed and replaced with a new extension. If you wait too long for a fill and too many extensions have already grown out or fallen off, you may be charged a full set. Try booking your refill appointments ahead of time to avoid disappointment. If you don't want a refill, it's best to book a removal appointment to avoid damage from pulling them out yourself.

Which style of lashes is right for me?

Okay, so you’ve decide to get lash extensions…YAY! But what kind? Which style? So many choices!

With new lash trends and styles appearing everywhere, it’s hard to know which ones are best for you. It can get overwhelming and confusing when lash artists are using terminology like “wet lashes”, “baby doll lashes”, “kitten eye”, “mega volume vs volume” and more. Don’t worry, we are here to help you differentiate the different lash styles that are currently all over instagram and which one you might like.

First things first: classic vs hybrid vs volume vs wet/mascara vs mega volume

If you head on over to our lash services page you can see a brief description of what each set is and a photo reference as well (note each set will look different on everyone). Your lifestyle plays a part in the type of lashes you might want to get. If you normally don’t wear makeup or a very minimal amount, classics and hybrids might be more for you. If you tend to wear more makeup and love the drama, then you will fall in love with the mega volume set. No matter which set you get…the style can be customized to your eyes.

Basic lash styles: Doll eye vs Cat eye vs Open eye vs Natural eye

There are so many more different styles, and not all of them have a name because every eye is different but these are the most basic and well known styles. They basically mean where the lashes are the shortest and longest. Doll eye is when the longest length is in the middle of the eye and both inner and outer corners are the shortest. This creates the illusion of a bigger more “dolly” looking eye. Cat eye on the other hand, is when the longest extensions are placed closer to the outer corner, creating a beautiful swoop effect when you open your eyes (kind of like doing a winged liner). Open eye is kind of a combination of both styles, where the longer lengths will extend further than just the middle of the eye and almost to the end of the outer corner before it gets shorter again. This, like the name suggests, really opens up the eye and make it seem bigger, wouldn’t recommend this to someone with already really round eyes as this might make you seem a little “surprised”. a natural eye just follows how your lashes grow, nothing too long, just enhancing the natural lash by making it appear thicker, fuller, curlier and a tad bit longer. This gives off that “I have extensions on but you might think these are my natural lashes”. Perfect for those who are getting extensions for the first time and are afraid of them looking unnatural.
